Week 5 – Term 3 2020

Dear parents and carers,

LIS classroom teachers have been working busily to cover the curriculum content after the school’s closure last term. This term, there is a targeted focus on reading and maths, to ensure children maintain appropriate levels. Special timetables have been created to allocate individual assistance to those students who need it.

In the high school, mock exams have been held in preparation for the year 8 National Examinations later in the year. The results from the mock exams inform teachers’ planning and teaching to ensure our year 8 class is fully prepared for the exams. Their preparation will also include compulsory Saturday exam preparation classes led by the School to Mine Campus (formerly WRI) teachers. These teachers will also be working with individual students in the lead-up to the exams.

Plans are underway for teachers to update their child protection training through an in-service led by an Education Qld child protection officer. This training will be conducted via the internet, with all LIS/STM staff participating.

If you have any concerns or would like further information on any of the topics in this newsletter, please do not hesitate to make contact.

Mr. Neville
